Your 2-Step Process to Get the 4-Year Temporary Residence

Step 1: Apply at a Mexican Consulate

Apply at any Mexican consulate — you do not need to be a resident of the country where you apply.

Step 2: Enter Mexico and Finalize Your Residence

Enter Mexico within 6 months of visa approval and go to an INM immigration office within 30 days to finalize your residence and receive your Resident Card.

Important Note About the Resident Card:
  • Your initial Resident Card will be valid for 1 year.
  • At the end of the first year, you will need to renew it once, and you'll receive the remaining 3 years — bringing the total to 4 years.
  • No need to reapply for the visa — just renew the card through the INM office.
